Frequently Asked Questions

The Cozy Pea — FAQ

What is The Cozy Pea?

The Cozy Pea is a small-batch yarn studio based in Denver, Colorado. We hand-dye high-quality yarn in limited batches every week — cozy, colorful, and ethically sourced. Our goal is to make beautiful yarn that’s accessible and affordable without compromising on quality.

Where is your yarn sourced from?

Our yarn bases come from Wool2Dye4, a trusted supplier that partners with small, ethically run farms. Our Merino wool comes from South American farms with a strict no-mulesing policy, meaning the sheep are humanely cared for. Our Bluefaced Leicester (BFL) wool is 100% British, sourced through the British Wool Marketing Board. Alpaca fibers are sourced from small farms in the Peruvian Andes, where sorting and processing are done by skilled craftspeople, primarily women.

All superwash processes are handled in Europe under OEKO-TEX® standards for safety and sustainability.

What does “hand-dyed, small-batch” mean?

Every skein is dyed by hand in our Denver studio. Small-batch means colors vary slightly between dye lots — it’s part of the charm. No big factories, no mass production. Just wool, dye, and a little chaos.

How should I care for my yarn?

Hand wash your finished piece gently in cool water, then lay flat to dry. Some light bleeding on the first wash is normal, especially with bright colors, so it’s best to test a swatch first.

What does “no-mulesing” mean?

Mulesing is a painful process some farms use to prevent flystrike in sheep. Our supplier only works with no-mulesing farms, meaning they use ethical care and breeding practices instead. It’s one of the reasons we’re proud of where our wool comes from.

When do new colors release?

We drop new colorways every Sunday. You’ll find both our Pea Staples (our classic, always-available colors) and weekly limited editions inspired by Colorado’s seasons, light, and landscape.

Do you offer shipping?

Yes. All yarns are available for purchase directly through cozypea.co, and we ship anywhere in the United States. Each order is packaged in recyclable materials — cozy for you, kind to the planet.

Can I take a class?

Yes. We’re setting up the studio to host small knitting, crochet, and yarn-dyeing workshops for up to four or five people at a time. Sessions will take place right in our Denver studio. Follow along on Instagram or join our newsletter for upcoming class dates.

Do you take custom orders?

Sometimes. For sweater quantities or custom colorways, email lexi@cozypea.co with details. We’ll let you know if we can make it happen.

What inspired The Cozy Pea?

After years in corporate America, I wanted to build something with my hands again — something that felt real. My boyfriend has called me “Sweet Pea” for years, and when I started dyeing yarn in our Denver sunroom, The Cozy Pea just felt right.
